Questions
Answers to the following Frequently Asked Questions are provided to assist with your understanding of the Mosher Foundation’s grantmaking approach and process.
Our funding is fully committed for the remainder of 2024. We are taking this opportunity to evaluate our future grantmaking policies so that we are well positioned to maximize our support of the inspired work of our local nonprofit community. We will continue to fulfill our existing commitments throughout the year and expect to resume reviewing new grant proposals in the Fall for funding in Spring 2025. Please continue to check this website for updates.
We provide grants to nonprofits in three areas:
- Education
- Healthcare
- Performing Arts
We do not accept or review unsolicited grant proposals. Our staff and board members are closely connected with the Santa Barbara nonprofit community and are continually aware of community need and the programs that align with our grantmaking priorities and criteria.
A nonprofit that we have not funded in the past may submit a one-page letter introducing their organization to our Foundation as long as they are in the areas of Healthcare, Education, or Performing Arts.
Introductory letters (no longer than one page) should be sent to info@mosherfoundation.org; or Mosher Foundation, 1114 State Street, Suite 248, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Our grantmaking is to nonprofits in the areas of Healthcare, Education, and Performing Arts. We are interested in programs that will drive meaningful positive change in a relatively short period of time.
We do not fund specific brick-and-mortar projects, endowments, annual funds, or salaries for staff positions. We do not consider requests for immediate or urgent funding needs.
We do not provide funding for general operating support. Our grantmaking is focused on specific, detailed programs that can be evaluated for measurable, positive outcomes that broadly benefit our community in a relatively short period of time.
By design, we limit our annual scope of giving so that we can forge meaningful relationships with a very select group of nonprofit partners. We believe this approach is foundational to their success on behalf of those they serve and to our community. While our 2024 grant funding is fully committed, we expect to resume reviewing new grant proposals in the Fall for funding in Spring 2025.
We rarely fund the same nonprofit in consecutive years so that we are in a position to consider the many innovative programs continuously being developed to address the needs of our community.
In general, we engage with funding partners year-round and work with them to identify an appropriate timeline for submitting their grant application. While we are not currently inviting additional new grant proposals, we expect to resume doing so in the Fall for funding in Spring 2025.
