The following information is provided to help you understand the Mosher Foundation’s grantmaking approach and process.
Our funding is fully committed for the remainder of 2024, and we will spend the remainder of the year completing those grants. We will not be extending invitations to apply for a grant or reviewing any new applications until 2025. During this interim period, we may reach out to select nonprofits to begin the engagement process.
Yes. Our grantmaking is limited to nonprofits focused on three areas: Education, Healthcare, and Performing Arts whose work is in South Santa Barbara County.
A nonprofit that has not received funding from our Foundation in the past may submit a one-page letter introducing their organization to us if they are delivering work in South Santa Barbara County in the areas of Education, Healthcare, or Performing Arts. Introductory letters should be emailed to info@mosherfoundation.org; or Mosher Foundation, 1114 State Street, Suite 248, Santa Barbara, CA 93101.
We fund nonprofit work in the areas of Education, Healthcare, and Performing Arts. We are interested in innovative programs that will drive meaningful, measurable positive change in a relatively short period of time.
We do not fund specific “brick-and-mortar” projects, endowments, annual funds, or salaries for staff positions. Additionally, we do not consider requests for immediate or urgent funding needs.
No, we do not provide funding for general operating support. Our grantmaking is exclusively focused on specific, detailed programs that can be evaluated for measurable, positive outcomes that broadly benefit our community in a relatively short period of time.
While we do not adhere to a set number of annual grants, we intentionally limit our scope of giving to a small and select group of organizations. This allows us to forge strong and productive partnerships and provide ample funding to the programs that will deliver the most benefit to our community.
We occasionally invite an organization we have funded in years past to submit a new grant application, but we very rarely fund the same nonprofit in consecutive years. We are continually evaluating the many highly creative programs being developed to address the changing needs of our community and we want to remain well positioned to fund those new efforts.
Historically, we have engaged with funding partners year-round, collaborating with them to identify the right timeline for their grant application. As community need and the landscape for foundation grantmaking grow more complex, we are evaluating the benefits of a more structured grant submission timeline and will share any changes to our grantmaking process on this website.
